The Fight Calendar: Upcoming Events for the Week (25th January)

The Fight Calendar: Upcoming Events

We’re all counting down the days until we get to see some more action and it can be a challenge to keep track of what MMA events are coming up. We’ve taken a look at the calendars for some of the major MMA organisations for this week and put them together for you, so you can plan out what fight cards will fill your week’s viewing!

UFC

Coming off the hype of the triple header week it’s a quiet one for the UFC this week. Their next card is Fight Night Overeem vs Volkov with the heavyweights clashing on the 6th of February.

ONE Championship

Unbreakable II | ONE Championship - Events

ONE Championship have you covered for fight cards this week, following up last week’s Unbreakable card with Unbreakable II. Heavyweights take center stage when Italian Mauro Cerilli takes on Russian Abdulbasir Vagabov, but we’ve got our eye on the other heavyweight match up, between Alain Ngalani and Oumar Kane. Ngalani is a star of the promotion who always comes to fight and we’re excited for the fireworks the heavyweights will bring.

Full Card:

Mauro Cerilli vs. Abdulbasir Vagabov

Daichi Takenaka vs. Ivanildo Delfino

Chen Rui vs. Kwon Won Il

Mihajlo Kecojevic vs. Beybulat Isaev (Light-Heavyweight Kickboxing)

Sovvannahry Em vs. Choi Jeong Yun

Alain Ngalani vs. Oumar Kane

Bellator

Still nothing to be seen from Bellator’s events pages. Their website is still showing their proposed 1st of January event (still listed as TBA vs TBA). We’ll keep checking in and keep you up to date!

Invicta FC

There’s also still nothing scheduled from Invicta FC since their last event on the 20th of November. Hopefully they start booking in some events before too long.

What fights are you most looking forward to seeing? What events will you be tuning in to watch? Let us know in the comments!

UFC

UFC Fight Night Chiesa vs. Magny

We’re being blessed by the MMA gods this week. Following the amazing match up between Holloway and Kattar last week we’ve got the remaining two cards of the triple header week coming at us quick, starting with UFC Fight Night Chiesa vs. Magny on the Wednesday the 20th. The full card is below, but we’re looking forward to the matchup between Lerone Murphy and Douglas Silva de Andrade the most. We might be slightly biased as a UK based site, but Lerone is an undefeated UK prospect with a great back story (he was literally shot in the face once) and is taking on a game opponent in what has potential to be a banger.

Full Card:

Michael Chiesa vs. Neil Magny

Warlley Alves vs. Mounir Lazzez

Ike Villaneuva vs. Vinicius Moreira

Roxanne Modafferi vs. Viviane Araujo

Matthew Christopher Schnell vs. Tyson Nam

Lerone Murphy vs. Douglas Silva de Andrade

UFC 257: Poirier vs McGregor

It’s the return of the Mac. Love him or hate him nothing quite builds hype and attention for a fight card than Conor being part of it. This time he’s taking on perennial contender, dangerous fighter and all round great guy Dustin Poirier in a rematch of the 2014 match up that saw McGregor’s hand being raised after just one minute and forty six seconds. Both fighters have developed since that first fight, and Conor has been taking long stretches away from the sport so it’s going to be interesting to see if Conor can fulfil his prediction of a KO within 60 seconds. While we’re keen to see the result of the main event we’re probably most looking forward to seeing Dan Hooker welcome three-time Bellator champ Michael Chandler to the UFC – we’re always keen to see how champions from other organisations cross over into the UFC, and with Chandler tipped as a last minute replacement for the Khabib vs. Gaethje match up a win for Hooker would see him positioned well for a run at the title.

Full Card:

Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor

Dan Hooker vs. Michael Chandler

Jessica Eye vs. Joanne Calderwood

Matt Frevola vs. Ottman Azaitar

Marina Rodriguez vs. Amanda Ribas

ONE Championship

Adding to the packed week of fights, ONE Championship will be delivering the goods on Friday with Unbreakable, where we see Alaverdi Ramazanov vs Capitan Petchyindee Academy, with Capitan challenging for the bantamweight kickboxing title. The rest of the card looks solid, but we can’t help but be excited for that main event and the clash of elite striking between the Babyface Killer and Capitan – who ended his last ONE bout, with the equally elite Petchtanong Banchamek, in just six seconds.

Full Card:

Alaverdi Ramazanov vs. Capitan Petchyindee Academy (Bantamweight Kickboxing World Title)

Shinya Aoki vs. James Nakashima

Rade Opacic vs. Bruno Susano (heavyweight kickboxing)

Zebaztian Kadestam vs. Gadzhimurad Abdulaev

Meng Bo vs. Samara Santos

Namiki Kawahara vs. Lio Adiwang

Bellator

Still nothing on Bellator’s events pages yet. Their website is still stuck on the 1st of January event (still listed as TBA vs TBA). We’ll keep checking in and let you know when their events start dropping!

Invicta FC

Still nothing scheduled from Invicta Fc since their last event on the 20th of November. Hopefully we can get some news from them soon.

FQ’s Favourites From The Hayabusa ‘Back to Class’ Sale

Martial arts and veterans tend to share a common ground; a number of big names in MMA are ex-military, including Brian Stan, Martin Stapleton, Paul Daley, Randy Couture and of course Tim Kennedy, who’s still serving his country. It doesn’t just stop with professionals though – a lot of veterans find that the discipline, comradery and physical challenge of martial arts training helps them with transitioning from military to civilian life. Liz Carmouche, who served three tours in Iraq as a Marine Corps helicopter mechanic, has said in interviews that without her MMA training she would have struggled a lot more when she left the military, and may not have become the person she is today.

Are Smart Mouthguards Going To Change Everything When It Comes To Head Trauma?

Are Smart Mouthguards Going To Change Everything When It Comes To Head Trauma?

You may not have heard of it, but the Internet of Things looks set to take over. The idea of imbedding technology like sensors in previously ‘dumb’ equipment and monitoring their output is predicted to revolutionise everything from how our cities run to how we turn the lights off in our living rooms (thanks Alexa). This has translated directly to sports and sports performance, for fighters this includes a number of trackers you can fit into your handwraps to analyse your performance (We’ve reviewed the ones from Hykso, Everlast/PIQ and Corner), to receive details on what strikes and combos you’re using, how hard you’re hitting and how much work you’re getting done each round.
