Rocky is the boxing film. The original and many argue the greatest, it’s about a low level boxer being picked by the undefeated champ for a title shot. Everyone expects him to lose, even Rocky expects to lose. But if he can make it through to the final bell he’ll be the first person to go the distance with Apollo Creed, proving he’s not just ‘a bum from the neighbourhood’.
Featuring one of the original underdog stories, romance, gangsters, drama and even a dog, Rocky was the breakthrough film for Sylvester Stallone. It propelled him from an usher who sold his dog because he couldn’t afford to feed it, to one of the most well known actors on the face of the planet. Shot on an excessively tight budget, in just 28 days, and with no major names starring, it would have been easy for Rocky to be a flop. Instead it’s become a timeless classic, and a must see for any true boxing fan.
