Engage MMA Hybrid Fight Shorts Review
Summary:
We found these fight shorts make a great choice for anyone who enjoys a high-cut, lighter short, and with plenty of designs available you should have no problem showing off a bit of personality with them.
Brand
Engage is an Australian Fight Wear, Fight Gear, Activewear and Apparel brand. Engage has a high focus on visuals, with their equipment often featuring bold colours, designs and styles not frequently seen in the fight gear industry.
About the Item
The fit of Engage’s MMA Hybrid Fight shorts are a short cut, with high leg slits for ultimate flexibility. We’ve actually tested out two pairs of these – one pair of their Tropicana shorts, and a pair of the Paradiso shorts – both part of Engage’s Summer Series capsule collection, a series designed to look equally fitting inside the gym, or outside in the summer sun.
Both pairs were sent to us by Engage for Fight Quality to test out and provide feedback on.

Visuals
Engage offer a number of designs, all of which have varying visual designs. Because of this, it’s a bit hard to define the look in any one way, but if we were to pin the range down to any one description, it would be that the shorts are all unique, bold designs.
The two pairs we’ve tested (the Tropicana and Paridiso shorts) both have designs which evoke a strong sense of summer and nature. The colours have come out really well, and the Tropicana shorts especially are super vibrant. The summer designs are the sort of shorts which could easily look at home at the beach.
Some of the visuals might be a bit out there for the gym, but thankfully some are calmer than others.
Materials/Craftsmanship
The Engage MMA Hybrid Fight Shorts are designed with movement in mind, with both the cut and materials maximising their flexibility.
As well as the shorter length of these shorts, they also have a high leg slit on each side, meaning there’s almost no restriction on flexibility when wearing these.
They’re also made with a 4-way stretch polyester blend, which feels seriously lightweight, which Engage claim features high-tech microfibers capable of wicking sweat and moisture away from the skin, all held together with flat-lock stitching to reduce any friction or irritation from the seams. The material means these feel really light, and are great for hotter climates.
On the inside, the waistband is lined with 3 bars of silicone, which help add some grip to the shorts. I found this made for a fairly secure fit around the waist, contrasting the lighter flowing feel of the rest of the shorts.

Comfort/use
Engage’s Hybrid shorts are a refreshing change. The cut is ideal for those practicing Muay Thai or Kickboxing, but also sturdy enough to work for MMA, but the material feels far lighter and less restrictive than Muay Thai shorts, or your typical MMA shorts.
What really sets them apart is that they’re super comfortable, and the lightweight material means you don’t really feel them much at all. They’re loose enough hat the material flows with you as you move, but as the same time don’t feel baggy.
If I had to come up with a negative here it would probably be that the shorts almost feel too light, which (despite them being well made) makes them feel a bit less durable and I can see some people preferring a thicker feeling short.
Cost
The base price for the Engage MMA Hybrid Fight Shorts comes to $87.95 AUD, which currently works out to roughly $62 USD or £48 GBP. They would make a great choice for anyone who enjoys a high-cut, lighter short, and with plenty of designs available, you should have no problem showing off a bit of personality with them.
