Hayabusa Gold Weave Goorudo 3 BJJ Gi Review

Brand

Hayabusa are a popular brand, with strong ties to MMA, but also branching out to various individual martial arts as well. They strive for high performance, and many of their products feature bold, unique designs. They are currently working alongside Glory Kickboxing as the official equipment suppliers.

About the item

The Goorudo 3 gi is one of Hayabusa’s premium gi’s, is available in sizes A0-A5 and comes in blue, black and white. We got hold of a blue version to try out and give our opinion on.

Visuals

As expected the majority of the gi is whatever colour choice you make and its highlighted with quite a few decals. The lapel, both shoulders, upper back, lower back, waist, inside of the gi, both thighs and the right shin all feature various embroidered designs, featuring the Hayabuas falcon, Hayabusa labels and kanji meaning ‘courage, strength, pride and respect’. On the blue gi these are highlighted in white/grey, on the black they’re red/white and on the white version they’re black/grey. The colour choices all work very well together to make the gi look great without being too ‘busy’ and in our opinion the aesthetics of this gi are fantastic. Our personal preference is the blue, there’s something about the blue/white/grey combo that just takes the design to a different level – it definitely turns heads when you step on the mats.

Materials/Craftsmanship

Hayabusa have used the Gold Weave to produce the Goorudo 3, which means that it was specially designed to maximise the comfort and durability of the gi, whilst making it feel tailor made for the wearer. You can tell that Hayabusa have paid a lot of attention to every aspect of the design – the stitching is intricate and carefully placed to reinforce but minimise any friction, it’s all well put together with careful thought to where reinforcement was required and we’ve been training regularly using it and so far its not showing any signs of wear – and more importantly, there’s no sign of it shrinking in the wash (Hayabusa pre-wash the gi to minimise this).

The Goorudo 3 is a heavyweight gi, to maximise its comfort and durability, and according to their website the jacket is 550gsm weave, with the twill cotton pants coming in at 12oz. Overall we feel like this gi is top of the line when it comes to materials and craftsmanship.

Comfort/use

Hayabusa say on their website that the goal of the Goorudo 3 gi is to deliver what the serious athlete needs and to allow you to test yourself on the mats without worrying about your gear not keeping up. The reality is that they nailed it, the gi is incredibly comfortable, allows you freedom of movement and is reinforced to maximise durability. If you’re looking for the cross over between comfort and performance you don’t need to look further than the Goorudo 3.

Cost

The retail price of the Goorudo 3 is $149, which to us represents good value for money. It’s probably going to put off a beginner, but then this gi isn’t designed for a beginner – it’s made for someone looking who’s taking their training seriously and wants a competition level gi that will keep up with them.
